Dear Parents,
Once again we find ourselves leaping into another school year. We welcome your children into the second grade community, and we are eager to begin a journey of discovery and exploration.
The first month of school is full of exciting events and activities. What better way to start our year than to spend some time thinking about friendships and sharing stories?! Second Grade CARES About Character, and we will spend some time this month talking about and celebrating the character trait of Responsibility. Look in the hallway outside of 2A for more information about each month’s character trait. We will also be busy this month conducting assessments in the areas of mathematics, phonics, spelling, and reading.
Beginning September 17 we will explore the theme of CHANGE by focusing on Changes in the Natural Environment. This will give second graders the opportunity to learn about the topics of land, air, and water as they relate to the changing environment. We will explore issues such as pollution, conservation, and recycling. Students will research these topics, and determine ways that they can have a positive impact on our planet.
We want to take this opportunity to remind you that Parents’ Night is Thursday, August 30th, at 7pm. Parents’ Night is an evening designated for you to meet the other parents in our classroom community and to share with you an overview of Second Grade. The event will begin in a lower school gathering in the theater followed by a short all second grade meeting in the common space outside of the Second Grade classrooms. Parents will then go to their own child’s classroom to learn about details specific to each individual classroom. We look forward to meeting you and familiarizing you with your child’s second grade experience.
Friday, August 31st has been set aside for fifteen-minute conferences during which we would like to share your thoughts, hopes, and concerns about your child and our journey together this year.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on August 30th.
