2A Reminders!

Please remember, tomorrow is Dressdown Day for Campfire Stories. Also, please refer to The Columbus Academy homepage for up to date dresscode guidelines. Please remember that having a belt with a shirt tucked in is dresscode. We are having a lot of children coming to school with shirts not tucked in, and belts not worn. It would be helpful to get a little extra support from home on this matter. Thank you.

Also, this week we sent home a Spooky Subtraction homework page that was supposed to be challenging for the children. They do not know how to "Carry, or borrow" and we recognize that, and actually do NOT want them to use that method to answer the questions. Our hope was that they would come up with strategies such as drawing pictures or breaking apart the tens and ones to add or subtract problems. For example, 26-12 could be viewed as 20-10=10 and 6-2=4, so add 10+4 to get 14. Any method your child comes up with is acceptable, so don't worry if it doesn't make any sense to you. :) They were allowed to ask for help on this homework, but we do want them to work on being independent with their strategies. Our hope is that they will learn many strategies to figure out problems and then use the one they feel most comfortable with, so please try not to teach them how to carry or borrow so they are coming up with their own strategies first. It would be helpful to read the problem with them, and ask them to read the directions carefully. Thank you for your support on this matter.

Also, today and tomorrow will be a spelling choice night. Feel free to let them be creative with this! I have loved the ideas that I've seen this year. Keep encouraging them to be creative.

Thank you for your time and support, and please keep studying those math facts and spelling words as much as possible!
